Praxair-Trailigaz Ozone Co. Names New President
CINCINNATI, Oh., November 18, 1997 -- Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) and Trailigaz today named Stewart K. Mehlman as president of the companies' joint-venture, Praxair-Trailigaz Ozone Co., effective November 1. Previously, Mehlman was director, ozone worldwide for Praxair.

Praxair purchased 50 percent of the joint-venture company with Trailigaz in January. At the same time, the two companies formed a worldwide alliance. The alliance combines Praxair's expertise in vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) oxygen generating systems with Trailigaz ozone generators to produce high-quality ozone for pulp bleaching, drinking water disinfection, and wastewater treatment. The partners estimate the alliance will generate approximately $40 million in new revenues worldwide by the year 2000 due to growth opportunities in these industries.

Mehlman joined Praxair in 1977 as a development engineer in Tarrytown, N.Y. Since then, he has held various positions in research and development and technology licensing, as well as management roles in sales and marketing for the pulp and paper industry. He is author of 20 technical papers and one book addressing industrial gases applications for the steel and pulp and paper industries and holds four patents for various industrial gas technologies.
He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.

Mehlman replaces Barry Loeb, who will serve as a senior ozone consultant to Praxair worldwide.
