Praxair Is Meeting Customer Demand for Liquid Hydrogen

September 02 2005

DANBURY, Conn., September 2, 2005 — The liquid hydrogen production facilities of Praxair, Inc. (NYSE:PX) came through Hurricane Katrina with minimal damage, and the company is continuing to supply existing customers. After its customer commitments have been met, Praxair is making excess liquid hydrogen available to the industry in order to help alleviate tight supply conditions.

Praxair operates liquid hydrogen facilities in McIntosh, Alabama; Niagara Falls, New York; Whiting, Indiana; and Ontario, California. The McIntosh plant is temporarily shut down for reasons unrelated to the hurricane, and is anticipated to re-start in the near future. The company’s gaseous hydrogen pipelines and plants in the South, located primarily in Texas and west of New Orleans, were not affected by the hurricane.

Praxair is the largest industrial gases company in North and South America, and one of the largest worldwide, with 2004 sales of $6.6 billion. The company produces, sells and distributes atmospheric, process and specialty gases, and high-performance surface coatings. Praxair products, services and technologies bring productivity and environmental benefits to a wide variety of industries, including aerospace, chemicals, food and beverage, electronics, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, metals and others.
