Liquid Helium
Because of its low boiling point (approximately -452°F or -269°C), liquid helium is used to cool magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnets to this temperature, where electrical resistance is virtually non-existent and the magnets become superconducting. The magnetic field created by the process provides medical professionals with detailed images of body tissue, often eliminating the need for exploratory surgery and biopsies. Praxair also supplies the liquid nitrogen (approximately -320°F or -196°C), used to insulate the helium, helping it maintain the liquid state.
Transfilling Service
