Praxair Doubles Sales Of Piping Services to Hospitals
Praxair Healthcare Services, a division of Praxair Distribution, has more than doubled the sale of environmental and medical gas piping services to hospitals since acquiring Compressed Gas Services (CGS), a privately owned company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, last year. How? By providing "the highest quality of service, professionalism and responsiveness," says William R. Nash's project manager Gene Setzer, who obtained the services of Praxair to complete a critical phase of a project in August.
With responsibility for building a nine-story addition to the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospitals in Chapel Hill, Setzer required the right team to meet the stringent building regulations of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' Division of Facilities Services. "After I contacted Todd Hedgepeth [Praxair Healthcare Services' business development manager and a previous CGS principal], he called Scott Lisec [service manager, healthcare services] and Tom Cook [service technician, healthcare services]," Setzer said. "Todd, Tom and Scott, who postponed his vacation to answer the call of duty, immediately mobilized their team to provide the service and assistance we needed to meet our deadline."
The project involved full certification of the medical gases piping system, providing the solutions to any questions or concerns, and preparing a detailed certification report. "Scott and Tom took the time to explain in depth to everyone involved what the necessary requirements were, as well as why the requirements were necessary," Setzer noted. "Praxair is a company that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend." Earlier work at UNC Hospitals also helped Praxair Healthcare Services complete the compliance project in such a short timeframe. "We use Praxair a whole lot here," said UNC Hospitals' Plumbing Supervisor Tony Solazzo. "All of my staff has attended its medical piping 'school' to learn about medical gas systems, vacuum systems and correct brazing procedures to maintain the required level of cleanliness and correct selection of materials. And we've used Praxair Healthcare Services for piping design and medical gas component installations, as well as a third-party compliance auditor. Praxair's Service Technician Casey Rinehart has been a great help, too--it's a good company."
Full-service provider
The addition of the environmental and medical gas piping services business has made Praxair Healthcare Services a full-service provider to the institutional healthcare industry, explains Praxair's Saulo Areas, global business development manager, Healthcare. "The product and service offerings include: the design, installation and servicing of medical piping and related equipment; preparation for third-party compliance audits; compliance training and certification of customers' employees; and bulk and cylinder medical gases supply systems," he said.
"We're now able to take advantage of growth opportunities because our combined resources give us improved direct marketing capabilities, solid leads from Praxair's Healthcare group, and our team’s extensive knowledge and technical ex-pertise in the servicing area," Areas continued. "We're well-established in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, and we’re looking to expand our business throughout the United States. In fact, we just acquired Respiratory Management Services in the New York area."
