Glass Furnace Oxy-Conversion Generates Cost and Production Benefits
Oxy-fuel burning offers production benefits, reduction in fuel and capital costs and the ability to reduce NOx formation to help achieve environmental limits. Results vary by type of furnace, but Praxair can determine the most cost-effective system to achieve productivity and cost savings in line with cost. For example, because the addition of an oxy-fuel burner can eliminate the need for heat recovery equipment, companies can avoid significant capital costs for installation or rebuild of heat recovery units. The savings on repair, maintenance and disposal of used checker brick also justify conversion. Replacing air with oxygen also reduces furnace nitrogen and furnace waste gas flow by 70% and doesn’t require the same level of particulate removal equipment. At the same time, the oxy-fuel system typically produces around 75% to 85% reduction in the formation of NOx, helping to meet environmental regulations.
