Glass Furnace Oxy-Boost Reduces Checker Plugging, Restoring Production

When dust and condensables restrict combustion airflow in side-port glass furnaces, Praxair Port 0 Oxy-Boosting can restore airflow and production. This Praxair system begins the melting process farther upstream and generates only about 30% of the combustion products produced with air-fuel burners, thus increasing thermal input and relieving plugging in the checkers. The reduction in clogging produces measurable increases in the production rate and quality of the glass produced. This system can be installed while the furnace is still in operation.
