Praxair Gases Are the Key to Modified Atmosphere Packaging
While there are dozens of factors at work in determining a product’s shelf life, few are as important as the packaging itself. Our Controlled Atmosphere Packaging (CAP) and Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) first address your product’s specific needs, before employing the appropriate mixture of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen and other gases to help reduce microbial growth, slow spoilage, and keep enzymatic and biochemical degradation in check. Our MAP system is especially valuable for snack food, meat and poultry processors in some cases doubling product shelf life.

Produce packers and shippers will find Praxair ExtendaPak™ specialty gas mixtures additionally useful in lowering product respiration rates for even longer product life, as well as lower handling costs, improved flavor and nutritional value. Inert nitrogen gas blanketing will further extend the lives of edible oils, coffee, spices and snack foods. Even in pastas and other preservative-free foods, gases will dramatically increase shelf life.
