Additional Information
Continue to improve the efficiency of energy
consumption. Reduce the intensity of air
emissions, including greenhouse gases.
Although Praxair has increased product production since 1999, the company’s environmental impacts have decreased in the same time period. Praxair’s primary environmental impact is in energy consumption. Other comparatively minor impacts include water consumption, the release of wastes, and emissions related to production and transportation. Our products do not require animal testing.
Environmental Management Systems
Praxair is a member of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and is a Responsible Care® company. We are committed to implementing Responsible Care standards across our global operations. We assure environmental integrity of our supply chain through our global Environmental Management System (EMS). Our goal is to align our EMS with Responsible Care and ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management systems. We have certified 14 plants around the world to ISO 14001 standards in order to meet customer requirements, and two additional locations will be certified by the end of 2003.
Environmental Goals
To continuously reduce the environmental impact of our operations, we will track our progress in the following areas:
Energy Intensity1
GOAL: Reduce the energy intensity of gases production by 18% over 10 years. Although our energy intensity has decreased over the past four years, we intend to reduce it further by upgrading existing facilities and starting up new, more efficient air separation plants. The goal of reducing energy intensity will become a key operational metric throughout our global businesses.

1 Energy intensity = Millions of BTUs per ton of product or per million cubic feet of product
